Gloria and Nancy are two artists who met at the University of Sunderland in 2010, at
the beginning the first year of Fine Art (BA). During their studies, they
discovered that that have many things in common, in fact, not only they are both interested
to the traditional Art (beauty of the art piece), but also in the concept that Art should
nowadays express a meaning to the audience.
    We want to remind the project put forward by
Gloria Louka "The hide and seek of the Male and Female Gaze", which brought the
artist's perspective on the interplay of the two opposite sexes. The man who would
traditionally be a hunter, and stares at the woman to make her understand the pleasure
of her beauty and the woman in question pretends to be displeased and turns
her eyes elsewhere, but looking at him with the corner of the eye.
    This artist's work of 2010, already
showed a strong passion and sensitivity regarding the different theories that in life
may be considered too old-fashioned but that unfortunately, considering the fact that
the taboo is still exist, are still happening nowadays.
   The same year 2010, the artist Nancy Castrogiovanni has worked on an extensive
research on the psychology of narcissism and its recently discovered disease, that
unfortunately, leads him to have a double personality rather conflicting and,
therefore, a hypersensitivity ( this was discovered only 20 years ago) to the way they
see the life. Another work by the same artist, has been the documentary of the city of
Naples in Italy, her mother country, where a series of four videos that lasted roughly
40 minutes each, indicated the difficulties and traumas suffered by the citizens from
1918 to the present day.
   It is important therefore to understand that it was not only a deep friendship that made
these two artists to begin working together, but also the fact that both show common
interests in Art and its way of being expressed. Both Gloria and Nancy love sculpture
as a basis to express their concepts.
   In 2011, therefore, they have shown an interest in undertaking an important project of
art, to work together in a single project. This indicates not only a great will by both
(because opposite to the popular belief, the work done in two becomes much more
problematic), but also their passion for Art as a method to exchange ideas and
theories that can be leading often in opposite directions. So, dealing with problems
that usually can be influenced by a theory rather than another (like when you read
two different newspapers, each one of those will choose to deal with the same
argument in opposite directions, so two different point of views). But in this case, the
two artists will try to have a more profound statement regarding the chosen subject
and to deal with it in a sustainable and direct way. It means that there will be a real
solution to the problem “The representation of the topic of discussion”, rather then
two different theories.
